About the event

Mallacoota is a premier fishing destination on the far eastern coast of Victoria, famous for black bream, dusky flathead, and Australian salmon. Anglers can target fish across diverse environments including the vast Mallacoota Inlet, the tranquil Betka River, and the surf at Bastion Point.

Prime Target Species and Gear

  • Black Bream: Abundant year-round in the inlet and river snags; best caught using surface lures, crankbaits, or live yabbies/nippers pumped from the sand flats.

  • Dusky Flathead: Thrive in shallow, sandy estuarine areas; responsive to soft plastics, vibes, and hardbody lures during warmer months.

  • Salmon & Gummy Shark: Found off the ocean beaches and around Bastion Point, ideal for surf casting and tidal shifting currents
